Devotees throng Devghat to mark Maghe Sankranti
Devotees poured to Devghatdham, the confluence of Kaligandaki and Trishuli rivers, in Chitwan on Thursday to observe Maghe Sankranti, celebrated on the first day of the Nepali month Magh.
Despite the fear of Covid-19, people from across the country visited the religious site located where Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Tanahu districts meet.
However, the market areas were not open like the previous years due to the fear of Covid-19.
“The crowd is comparatively smaller this year but there are still a lot of people who have come despite the fear of Covid-19,” said Kiran Poudel, of Devghat Area Development Committee,
As per the Hindu astrology, Makar Sankranti has a special significance as the sun enters the northern hemisphere on this day and therefore days start getting longer from this day.
